Mantorp Park is our home track and it is also one of the biggest races in Europe with 360 teams from Junior Dragster to Top Fuel. The fuel cars is running 1000-feet and Top Fuel Bike and Super Twin is running 1/8 mile because of the short stopping distance. We did step up the tuning from Finland trying to do our best first round out trying to get into the 8-bike ladder. There is 20 twins trying to be there.<br /><br />We have been struggling with unstable idle on the bike since the time we first started it. We get it running right but for some reason does it runs bad next time we start it. The main problem is a cold wet rear cylinder which change to hot during load and the front cools down. With help of the nozzle sizes does we compensate for it and got it pretty good in Finland. But when after the first burnout is it real bad. The fuel is just flushing out of the rear cylinder exhaust pipe so we decide to stop the engine and cancel the run.<br /><br />Back in the pits checking all nozzles and check valves. Re-jetting with nozzle changes, start testing many times. We were not satisfied but went out for next qualification run. It did run better now and the temperature between the front and rear cylinder were almost perfect. The plan was to do a “soft” hit and do a full 1/8 mile run.<br /><br />But direct when Charley opened the throttle full did the engine misfire a couple of times and stopped abrupt. It stopped so quick that the blower belt was ripped off. The broken blower belt and bent pushrods on the front cylinder was the only thing that showed that something was wrong. Some oil smoke from the exhaust pipes as well.<br /><br />This was not what we wanted. Back to the pits draining the oil to start analyse the damages. There was a lot of nitro in the oil. The intake manifold were full of oil and when the cylinder heads was removed did we realize that the front piston had been pushed down to the bottom and with help of the wrist pin splitting the connecting rod in two halves. We got the same damages at the last tests in Finland last year.</div><br /><div></div><div></div><div></div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQeWnJZlN1lpXgW7CN_z_9tFKwO301zXJMJWqSgsrNxd6OZcYFW0U0lMdVfF2lI4mqeB9TXHFmnmswu5iHNJY5MYCWAJvL1YlhyphenhyphenNQaXi1eMf8uYHpGz6ZNHJl-WF_ik9cQWfdy9VnKXo6U/s1600-h/CIMG1646.jpg.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 266px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5364293359926265874" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQeWnJZlN1lpXgW7CN_z_9tFKwO301zXJMJWqSgsrNxd6OZcYFW0U0lMdVfF2lI4mqeB9TXHFmnmswu5iHNJY5MYCWAJvL1YlhyphenhyphenNQaXi1eMf8uYHpGz6ZNHJl-WF_ik9cQWfdy9VnKXo6U/s400/CIMG1646.jpg.JPG" /></a> <div></div><div></div><div>Parts that was damaged was both connecting rods, front cylinder and piston, pushrods. Probably was also the main roller bearings damaged. Everything needs to be inspected and cleaned and we had the parts to fix it for Saturdays qualification but after discussion in the team what can cause the problem did we decide to not fix it. We need to find and fix the problem otherwise will same thing happen again.</div><br /><div></div><div></div><div></div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjq9JuZKClyJAm9EDMGkhWzlFrEdC6s2AOw17cYYC8HaqtkmfRoSTZCT04u8m2FPw9xLYLZdKc7j9Q3gddBOV14yiFZLs9tbud_kp6PMeQQTWVUlQlf9rtvTEbWriFLS1XjG22aPWPcrw0D/s1600-h/CIMG1654.jpg.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 266px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5364293020562720530" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjq9JuZKClyJAm9EDMGkhWzlFrEdC6s2AOw17cYYC8HaqtkmfRoSTZCT04u8m2FPw9xLYLZdKc7j9Q3gddBOV14yiFZLs9tbud_kp6PMeQQTWVUlQlf9rtvTEbWriFLS1XjG22aPWPcrw0D/s400/CIMG1654.jpg.JPG" /></a>Last years problem with torching out the cylinder heads was caused by faulty cam timing which we corrected with softer cam lobes that we pressed on and welded ourselves to get a perfect timing. Now we have find out that there is one more problem that needs to be solved. On our way solving the problems have also other parts been redesigned to minimize damages and also made “bullet-proof” (almost).<br /><br /><div></div><div>Example of parts is head to cylinder seal system with a o-ringed copper gasket, new ARP 8740 cylinder head studs (8 x 7/16 + 3 x 3/8), new safer ½ ARP2000 cylinder base studs that has 220,000 tensile strength, new designed lighter Venolia pistons with .017 Dykes (L-shape) top ring, now without skirt buttons that seems to work perfect in combination with the Uddeholm Impax Supreme cylinder and the Red Line WT70 synthetic oil. The new Uddeholm Orvar Supreme wrist Pins with Oerlikon Balzer Balinit Star coating is like new even after the big failures. The Uddeholm Orvar Supreme is very easy to adjust and does not move or bends even if the pushrods is bent out of the pushrod seat. And the new Uddeholm Deivar crank does stand the piston/rod failure, only some cleanup with Scotch Brite needed.<br /><br />During the rest of the weekend in Mantorp did the team got time to analyse what is causing the problem and what to do about it. We did come to the ignition system. Not the components but the way it is installed in the powertrain. We suspect that the space for the distributor caps is to small so when the engine is put under high load with a lot of fuel the energy is released to motorplates and covers thru the caps and or jumping to the wrong post in the caps trying to find the easiest way to ground thru the “waste spark boxes”. These large 44-amp car mags is normally mounted with a lot of space around them and large caps just to prevent sparks in the wrong place. </div><br /><div></div><div></div><div></div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhQ38Qd8u2Yd9KdT8DdAd3I7NbqcjsS_-rVsdaMcExmL9n5-2Bs60WN_HKPJx15gldyAOs5txqDbQpJzJYzZS7bHt_BUKC_aq3qnsQ2tI40avlRCIqDAykX3s3TM7rMggEBtCF9zclW_Jo/s1600-h/CIMG1688.jpg.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 266px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5364292426646532802" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhQ38Qd8u2Yd9KdT8DdAd3I7NbqcjsS_-rVsdaMcExmL9n5-2Bs60WN_HKPJx15gldyAOs5txqDbQpJzJYzZS7bHt_BUKC_aq3qnsQ2tI40avlRCIqDAykX3s3TM7rMggEBtCF9zclW_Jo/s400/CIMG1688.jpg.JPG" /></a> <div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzf-OBMS2jXZ6CaH92Bvw3q_FQubHYHOC7F3hmZs_pBrewbiB1JGvxIOmiihSI5U9fPAxr_Dx9nWyxmFxP2H8mqJApHq0uAY52WWCanT9OFHDTGLvLx9wTxnEeQaSWLgH0KVmWZyoXZSFV/s1600-h/CIMG1686.jpg.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 266px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5364292192327445218" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzf-OBMS2jXZ6CaH92Bvw3q_FQubHYHOC7F3hmZs_pBrewbiB1JGvxIOmiihSI5U9fPAxr_Dx9nWyxmFxP2H8mqJApHq0uAY52WWCanT9OFHDTGLvLx9wTxnEeQaSWLgH0KVmWZyoXZSFV/s400/CIMG1686.jpg.JPG" /></a> <div></div><div></div><div></div><div>To get forward and see if our theory is right is a MSD electronic ignition going to be installed temporary and the mag system will be partly removed and disconnected.<br />This will happen the next couple of weeks and the bike will preliminary be ready for testing in Alastaro at the end of this month.</div><br /><div></div><div>The race in Mantorp this year was the best so far with a lot of new records in many classes. Everything needs to be inspected and cleaned and we had the parts to fix it for Saturdays qualification but after discussion in the team what can cause the problem did we decide to not fix it. We need to find and fix the problem otherwise will same thing happen again.</div><br /><br />

<br /><div>Last years problem with torching out the cylinder heads was caused by faulty cam timing which we corrected with softer cam lobes that we pressed on and welded ourselves to get a perfect timing. Now we have find out that there is one more problem that needs to be solved. On our way solving the problems have also other parts been redesigned to minimize damages and also made “bullet-proof” (almost).</div><br /><br />
<br /><div></div><br />
<br /><div></div><br />
<br /><div>Example of parts is head to cylinder seal system with a o-ringed copper gasket, new ARP 8740 cylinder head studs (8 x 7/16 + 3 x 3/8), new safer ½ ARP2000 cylinder base studs that has 220,000 tensile strength, new designed lighter Venolia pistons with .017 Dykes (L-shape) top ring, now without skirt buttons that seems to work perfect in combination with the Uddeholm Impax Supreme cylinder and the Red Line WT70 synthetic oil. </div><br />

<br /><div>The race in Mantorp this year was the best so far with a lot of new records in many classes. It is great to see the big interest for dragracing from younger people. Over 50 junior dragster teams did race during the weekend. The Junior Dragbikes did not compete at this race. After the semifinals Sunday did the rain come and the organizer has to stop the race 9.30 PM because of wet stopping distance and darkness.</div><br />

It will be interesting to see if all new parts and modifications that has been done since the last testing at the same track in August 2008 will work as expected.<br /><br /><em>Thursday:</em> The weather is perfect, almost 30 degrees C, the day before the first qualification day. The team, Matte Tärnström, Jarmo Pulkkinen, Carina Dahl and me Charley is setting up everything in the pits and do the final checkup and adjusting with setups on the bike. Hasse Björkman, who spend the last night before leaving the shop for the trip to Finland together with Charley and Carina doing final assembly and loading up everything, is not with us at the races.<br /><br /><em>Friday:</em> There is light rain this morning. There is two qualification runs for the Pro Classes. The first round has to be cancelled because of the rain and a huge oil down along the whole track. There is 18 Super Twins that should try to get into a 8 bike field so it will be tuff to just qualify. On our first pass did the engine misfire under load on the front cylinder so it became a short one, only a second of full throttle from the starting line and a smooth rolling on again one more second just to see that the engine is running okey. Just over 14 seconds and 104 km/h at the finish line. We were happy, just regular service and nothing damaged.<br /><br />We have to find out why we get the misfire. One thing we not know yet and have to find out by experience is how much flex there is in the drive system for the mags (ignition generators with rotors). The ignition is timed by triggers at the crankshaft for a perfect timing and the spark is timed to the right ignition wire out to the spark plug by the rotor and cap at the generators. This needs to be at the optimised to get the best spark. We moved the generators 5 degrees to see if we can solve it.<br /><br /><em>Saturday first run:</em> This will be interesting. Direct from the hit, the engine is still misfiring but runs a little bit better. Close the throttle after just a second and open it up again a couple of times but not full just to see how it reacts. It runs clean on partial throttle. Now 11,36 and 143 km/h. Just regular service is needed before final qualification round. At the download from the onboard computer we can see that the exhaust temperature is coming closer to be the same front and rear, both on idle and at the run.<br /><br />The nozzle sizes is changed trying to get the temperatures to the same values at both cylinders.<br /><br /><em>Saturday second run:</em> Now does the engine respond without any misfires direct from the starting line and runs clean. It does not pull hard but it runs clean. The throttle is kept open for 3,6 sec than shut off 1,6 sec for correction and then opened again for 1,3 seconds. The time slip shows 8,74 and 210 km/h. The time was not good enough to qualify in the 8-bike field. We ended up us number 10.<br /><br />Lorenz Stauble from Switzerland became number one qualifier with 6,898 and 324 km/h followed by Per Bengtsson from Sweden 6,929/281 km/h. These two guys did also take wins and met in the final. Per Bengtsson won the race.<br />After servicing our bike we only find some black marks on the front piston and replaced it together with a new honed cylinder and replaced the upper halves on the connecting rod bearings that was pushed out a little bit. The new Uddeholm Deivar crank looks great as the new Uddeholm Orvar Supreme Wrist Pins that got a Balinit DLC Star coating made by Oerlikon Balzers.<br /><br />This was the first time we ran Red Line 70 WT oil and at the same time we did run the plain Venolia aluminium pistons into the Uddeholm Impax Supreme steel cylinders. It seems to work good. The black marks is caused by to much fuel in that cylinder.<br /><br />Now there is some minor things to fix before the race at Mantorp Park 24-26 July. We look forward to continue the work trying to find a “window” in the tune-up that is good enough to compete for a place in the 8 bike field. We are 20 riders trying to be there.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfMP9N0GM6NPhP5br_WY5krVvFvByvqFQhItJDDAy1DPv_DIvLVw2r1T8dsJKhLfVUdRkfKcNVlvZDwg32AwfJXj21GhYh0G-syEbNMCrK6cxA2f8LFafG5-PUrANMUqHJiHV1sdjqeVWy/s1600-h/Photo+Ninni+Hagstr%C3%B6m.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5356089714241744450" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfMP9N0GM6NPhP5br_WY5krVvFvByvqFQhItJDDAy1DPv_DIvLVw2r1T8dsJKhLfVUdRkfKcNVlvZDwg32AwfJXj21GhYh0G-syEbNMCrK6cxA2f8LFafG5-PUrANMUqHJiHV1sdjqeVWy/s400/Photo+Ninni+Hagstr%C3%B6m.JPG" /></a> <div></div><div></div><div></div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYJXBBx0dXd0sDjuWUmV3tbK40LrBMROR3v-WobCxAtKDMwgAq9ltLJO5vIbuZ4bRjtQKeF9IFThfdh7MW6w8xThiaJJeI51ry8BVms-26Yi3wcRuFlDoDN9EN21RyEDSsa2b6y2yf6MUr/s1600-h/Photo+Lena+Per%C3%A9z.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 266px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5356089555311177554" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYJXBBx0dXd0sDjuWUmV3tbK40LrBMROR3v-WobCxAtKDMwgAq9ltLJO5vIbuZ4bRjtQKeF9IFThfdh7MW6w8xThiaJJeI51ry8BVms-26Yi3wcRuFlDoDN9EN21RyEDSsa2b6y2yf6MUr/s400/Photo+Lena+Per%C3%A9z.JPG" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpAqM-pOeUbWkCWZi7BMpIaj_gVz3uv0T7U7ng4pcphlhePM-Q5nJ9cU_OzlSjckpztzLxCehwbRK84cmBOMTTkoyVz9sqkT8Q7Of3kFueDx9wXyuetlXQB-73K5dG6v-Tdw83KqjPIQdL/s1600-h/Photo+Ninni+Hagstr%C3%B6m,+Warm-up.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5356089294627828882" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpAqM-pOeUbWkCWZi7BMpIaj_gVz3uv0T7U7ng4pcphlhePM-Q5nJ9cU_OzlSjckpztzLxCehwbRK84cmBOMTTkoyVz9sqkT8Q7Of3kFueDx9wXyuetlXQB-73K5dG6v-Tdw83KqjPIQdL/s400/Photo+Ninni+Hagstr%C3%B6m,+Warm-up.JPG" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8MaMGsK9bIUk6z5R-uB91pvo8itz9JNajZRLoAgxqNUG2qBhg9xLMfV77JmnSvosXvqcTGaOASf4YnS7aXko7jpNbc-pyCSothzX1hzelg5Z2ng0dmR-9mRZQ1xjXDmfWuQcOrmPJveNS/s1600-h/Photo+Ninni+Hagstr%C3%B6m,+Service.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5356089069295598770" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8MaMGsK9bIUk6z5R-uB91pvo8itz9JNajZRLoAgxqNUG2qBhg9xLMfV77JmnSvosXvqcTGaOASf4YnS7aXko7jpNbc-pyCSothzX1hzelg5Z2ng0dmR-9mRZQ1xjXDmfWuQcOrmPJveNS/s400/Photo+Ninni+Hagstr%C3%B6m,+Service.JPG" /></a> </div>Karlinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14249917952731367087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-429297526156341290.post-80415948637836787592009-06-27T15:53:00.003+02:002009-07-08T15:56:52.535+02:0027 June 2009 NEW UDDEHOLM DEIVAR CRANKSHAFTSTwo new 4.250” Crank Shafts is now ready to use. The material is Uddeholm Deivar which has excellent toughness and ductility in all directions. This material also has many other properties that makes it a excellent choice for high quality crankshafts. After ruff machining it is hardened to 45 HRC then fine machined on all surfaces and grinded. The final step is a Plasma Nitride finish and then hand polishing.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizQqCPBtU7Ez854a7Odz4lCPlaGoYXa1mxbtLlcCppjImHsBai9D0ynwfZUANkX0pUxOhju3GVLNdZD7IYVKBOU_Pt7NecCr6sE9VQrXh47HVFAuT5fsMcIEwSof-RhjDrUVNhSGTugyTJ/s1600-h/Karling+Crankshaft.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 266px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5356087679723649266" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizQqCPBtU7Ez854a7Odz4lCPlaGoYXa1mxbtLlcCppjImHsBai9D0ynwfZUANkX0pUxOhju3GVLNdZD7IYVKBOU_Pt7NecCr6sE9VQrXh47HVFAuT5fsMcIEwSof-RhjDrUVNhSGTugyTJ/s400/Karling+Crankshaft.JPG" /></a>Karlinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14249917952731367087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-429297526156341290.post-80936518494072782312009-05-10T15:33:00.001+02:002009-07-08T15:53:03.557+02:0010 May 2009 FOCUS ON TESTING 2009The 2009 season will have focus on testing for Karling Racing Team. The new bike that was built from scratch during the last three years needs some more testing. During 2008 did we “torch” the heads bad three times and at the end of the season had we solved that problem. The reason was cam timing in combination with intake design and fuel distribution.<br /><br /><em>The main things that is new on the bike for 2009 is:<br /></em>New Leahy Ignition Crank Triggers<br />New designed Karling Crank Trigger Bracket<br />New lighter Venolia Pistons for Dykes ring package<br />New Aker & Childs Dykes .017 Piston Rings<br />New Karling Countersunk Copper Head Gasket<br />New Karling Uddeholm Deivar 4.250 Crankshaft<br />New Karling Uddeholm Orvar Supreme 1.094 Wrist Pins<br />New light weight hard anodised Supercharger drive pulleys<br />New ARP2000 ½” Super High Strenght Cylinder studs<br />New in case timed Cam Lobes<br /><br />To make the most and best of testing this year will the team go to the European Championship races in Finland and Sweden. It will probably be more testing after Mantorp depending on how it fits into the schedule.<br /><br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 266px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5356085063429150418" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgolewGWHODYZ6VkFU4vkOIUEYkDZo35ndXrG8cejbj0cZaoLzWUMVj-OMjIsHjRjthPyNSZZI7SQSxmBccy9WgrJTiTTc_DSTT9p2wBqqpjBMLBXOuD1Vtv0UeuhVaOdRBPSr_obbSfdP5/s400/Karling+Crank+Trigger+Bracket.JPG" /> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgn03yBH7END4aOb4l1oRyoipIdFQJs4YtUa1pt3OZzn-VS4OlWNpiSnDuCz4KkeXoVJ1gD0HsVe_f_38aTXf9JZESRMTxUpO-cZ8ukQmgqlj86VTdkwkm-IU5RIJYWh8ScvJgPSMWoUjE2/s1600-h/Karling+Supercharger+Drive+Pulley.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 266px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5356084850481957106" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgn03yBH7END4aOb4l1oRyoipIdFQJs4YtUa1pt3OZzn-VS4OlWNpiSnDuCz4KkeXoVJ1gD0HsVe_f_38aTXf9JZESRMTxUpO-cZ8ukQmgqlj86VTdkwkm-IU5RIJYWh8ScvJgPSMWoUjE2/s400/Karling+Supercharger+Drive+Pulley.JPG" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNBSYwbYLVjgaF5spmaiX1OAz5aj_71swHh5dYdo9Jc8lXoBHAx7h-e8RMGdf2gIZzla_g393FVbSgLA9cgb4RsBdHpU1-guqYViM_LEkuRE4k70iK9whnC8dfgQ4MmIm0xGMC6r4jsQM4/s1600-h/Karling+Supercharger+Belt+Pulley.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 266px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5356084642498566738" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNBSYwbYLVjgaF5spmaiX1OAz5aj_71swHh5dYdo9Jc8lXoBHAx7h-e8RMGdf2gIZzla_g393FVbSgLA9cgb4RsBdHpU1-guqYViM_LEkuRE4k70iK9whnC8dfgQ4MmIm0xGMC6r4jsQM4/s400/Karling+Supercharger+Belt+Pulley.JPG" /></a><br /><div><div> </div></div>Karlinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14249917952731367087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-429297526156341290.post-18449474399051741592009-03-18T12:43:00.001+01:002009-03-18T16:10:00.927+01:00RACING SCHEDULE FOR 2009 IS NOW UPDATEDKarlinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14249917952731367087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-429297526156341290.post-89576320440346668662009-02-26T11:40:00.005+01:002009-03-09T19:00:10.963+01:008-9 January 2009 AUTOSPORT INTERNATIONAL SHOW 2009 BIRMINGHAM ENGLAND<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE6_pMiKTtp987XOQjdy73m35oa4OLw4O6RV0PGGWQaaxqY1RjDMk3cGMnP40V493s9lu5tYeU237FWSH8d0SigKw9Q1UKbSNSlgq3Kz45KC5XQ76Qtdbntq0m7v4mwXiUvAE7oayIfOTt/s1600-h/Autosport+Int+2009+(9).jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5311249024207470738" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 300px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE6_pMiKTtp987XOQjdy73m35oa4OLw4O6RV0PGGWQaaxqY1RjDMk3cGMnP40V493s9lu5tYeU237FWSH8d0SigKw9Q1UKbSNSlgq3Kz45KC5XQ76Qtdbntq0m7v4mwXiUvAE7oayIfOTt/s400/Autosport+Int+2009+(9).jpg" border="0" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgU4XVwmdmy22Mv7SMIvEvAb4KjUjpfEmmKQkRJXtE2vNd3nfjnkQr5iOZuYCExtG1vUN6lyCgmbUQSFDSRv1W758gB9sC3HO5Yqe9wtvNRJpJx-LVoUV-4S2c3ZgPdRAS5gNV5HpA92Hhp/s1600-h/Autosport+Int+2009+(4).jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5311248937229374706" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 300px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgU4XVwmdmy22Mv7SMIvEvAb4KjUjpfEmmKQkRJXtE2vNd3nfjnkQr5iOZuYCExtG1vUN6lyCgmbUQSFDSRv1W758gB9sC3HO5Yqe9wtvNRJpJx-LVoUV-4S2c3ZgPdRAS5gNV5HpA92Hhp/s400/Autosport+Int+2009+(4).jpg" border="0" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgO0Pzzvs2jymy1zcBNsiTEVsDua7OgmPc-bCtbiLlSf6Zbfx7O9-UTCBwFlvN9eGJovPJ9CvArmdlkr3vg4CK4FsvGY3U-2XhTkdl6YtPybNpb7gU79rOJMhiLVw8rcvcJga8hUou9yqka/s1600-h/Autosport+Int+2009+(1).jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5311248815272696386" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 300px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgO0Pzzvs2jymy1zcBNsiTEVsDua7OgmPc-bCtbiLlSf6Zbfx7O9-UTCBwFlvN9eGJovPJ9CvArmdlkr3vg4CK4FsvGY3U-2XhTkdl6YtPybNpb7gU79rOJMhiLVw8rcvcJga8hUou9yqka/s400/Autosport+Int+2009+(1).jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><div><div><div>For the second year in a row did Udddeholm UK participate at the Autosport International Show. The new Karling dragbike was a big help attracting visitors to the display. The new bike is not only good to get attention to the Uddeholm brand it is also useful as a reference object for 13 different Uddeholm materials used in the 6000 hour project. Materials that are used is from the simplest low-carbon steel in clutch plates to the most exclusive powder steel in valve train parts.<br /><br />Karling Racing also had some examples of components on display together with Dealer Sports STCC Team that use Uddeholm materials in different components. On display was some parts that is going to be used in the SAAB 9-3 BioPower STCC car for coming season.<br /><br />To see pictures and text at Eurodragster just click on the link:<br /><a href="http://www.eurodragster.com/live/2009autosportinternational/reports/friday.htm">http://www.eurodragster.com/live/2009autosportinternational/reports/friday.htm</a><br /><a href="http://www.uddeholm.co.uk/">http://www.uddeholm.co.uk/</a><br /><a href="http://www.autosport-international.com/">http://www.autosport-international.com/</a></div></div></div>Karlinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14249917952731367087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-429297526156341290.post-56442668968828185642009-02-26T11:33:00.003+01:002009-02-26T11:40:20.929+01:0020-21 November 2008 SACO STUDENT SHOW STOCKHOLM SWEDENSaco Student Mässan 2008<br /><br />For the second year in a row did Bergsskolan from Filipstad use the new Karling/Uddeholm dragbike at the annual Saco's student exhibition in which most of the Universities in Sweden participates. The show had 22.751 visitors which is 1.700 more than last year. Bergsskolan has expanded their courses for engineers with high grades of steel and metal industry training. The basics with all from minerals to steel production still exists of course. A lot of the high grade of engineers at Uddeholm comes from Bergsskolan.<br />See: <a title="http://www.bergsskolan.se/index.asp?textid=" href="http://www.bergsskolan.se/index.asp?textid=251">http://www.bergsskolan.se/index.asp?textid=251</a>Karlinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14249917952731367087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-429297526156341290.post-72259995379434205912009-02-26T11:24:00.000+01:002009-02-26T11:30:02.482+01:00Oct 21th to 24th 2008 TECHNICAL FAIR STOCHOLM<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZXcUBoVmAFeirhH5ibzNEoBsksqWD5CPL_AXg7ps2bJsP5DYy2XN5dLDyzDLagWce8Ff5T0yS1Y_ZjX5WHhmjuc4K_mI407ERG41MrB216FlIhcwQjfb4B92F-vSh0H8lQZkzCeq6kx8Z/s1600-h/CIMG1589.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5307050999105165138" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 300px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZXcUBoVmAFeirhH5ibzNEoBsksqWD5CPL_AXg7ps2bJsP5DYy2XN5dLDyzDLagWce8Ff5T0yS1Y_ZjX5WHhmjuc4K_mI407ERG41MrB216FlIhcwQjfb4B92F-vSh0H8lQZkzCeq6kx8Z/s400/CIMG1589.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><div>For the second year in a row did the new dragbike attract visitors to IronCAD/Solidmakarna´s display at 2008 Technical Fair in Älvsjö (Stockholm) Sweden. The new dragbike is designed in IronCAD 3D and as Charley Karling says “It had been impossible to get a bike like this together without IronCAD. And now when the bike is built we have a product not just a one-off dragbike.” </div><div> </div><div><br />This years show had over 22000 visitors during 4 days. Solidmakarna did feel a very<br />good response at the show and the bike really did show what can be done with a good easy to use 3D program. In matter of fact Charley who have been doing the designwork did learn IronCAD the same year the bike project started.</div>Karlinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14249917952731367087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-429297526156341290.post-1148292614874622032008-09-18T14:25:00.000+02:002008-09-18T14:27:22.341+02:00Aug 29 to 31 2008 Alastaro Finland at FHRA DEFA Finals for testingWe have to cancel the race at Gardermoen There was to little time to work getting the bike ready, finding the problems we have and travelling. The weather in Norway was bad and if we had worked day and night to be there we have had been disappointed because of the bad weather.<br /><br />We decide in an early stage to repair the bike and try to figure out what is wrong. We know that there is no mechanical problems but we do get a lot of mechanical damages when we are torching the heads.<br /><br />By a discussion in the team and with people around us we find out that there are some areas that we have to make modifications to eliminate the risk of failures.<br />What we also decided was to cancel the Europen Finals at Santa Pod. We wanted to do testing before season is over and that must be on a good safe track - like Santa Pod - but we find out that we had one closer and that was in Alastaro in Finland the weekend before England. FHRA did run their finals. We did contact Tapio Valia in Finland and FHRA and they wish us welcome to come over for testing.<br /><br />So, with the bike in perfect shape did Greger Johansson, Matte Tärnström, Carina and me go by the boat over to Finland. The weather was perfect all three days. Only one round was cancelled because of light rain. We did burn a lot of fuel during 16 warmups in the pits, adjusting and checking. The engine did run much better on idle and the response was there too. We did three shorter test runs, one per day. No sign of torching heads. But we got misfiring on front cylinder under load from the first round and by adjusting and checking we got less misfire every round. We couldn´t get rid of it before the weekend was over. But anyhow did this test weekend give us a lot. A very big thanks to FHRA letting us be there. <br /><br />We did watch the race in England on the internet and for us that needed to get runs were glad we did get them in Finland. We did see many racers doing very good ET:s at Sunday mornings qualification and it was really exciting to follow the races and counting points. Congratulations to Svein-Olav Rolfstad who became 2008 Super Twin European Champion. There are many that is going to chase him next year.<br /><br />Must mention Sverre Dahl Norway that now is running the new Karling/McBride clutch and setting a new European Speed Record with 371,93 km/h (231,11 mph) in Top Fuel Bike.Karlinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14249917952731367087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-429297526156341290.post-86971178797914559842008-08-14T11:18:00.000+02:002008-08-14T12:27:48.432+02:00July 25th to 27th 2008 Mantorp Park Sweden Veidec Festival<div align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBsjnV4F9OvMTrxY6jqcEOKr3nZlDCDJY1SSLN71ZKokGMiiukI5C46EU3PPwejyhPidIsVRPczLS1J1UHAlfsQ2job_6R0pgtskuuofx7AtvCA13xzcp2Unk9zLu6tnlg0Xog6joup_vA/s1600-h/DSC_0207.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5234310063653528626" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBsjnV4F9OvMTrxY6jqcEOKr3nZlDCDJY1SSLN71ZKokGMiiukI5C46EU3PPwejyhPidIsVRPczLS1J1UHAlfsQ2job_6R0pgtskuuofx7AtvCA13xzcp2Unk9zLu6tnlg0Xog6joup_vA/s400/DSC_0207.JPG" border="0" /></a><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5234310973573687074" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAuE7xL-N3L0yxiR9924mBi2R8kahk038xYAGEFEaFHyfRcNsP9ZdFk_aKH66OxEGpi8kylafKUgeGKFJCjggGJzXK3_3PCb6G0iENvczoFfR7CiNCY_yIJlbgHN4gPNPgfbXvMD9EveeA/s400/Foto+Tapio+Valja+IMG_2904.jpg" border="0" />Photographer Tapio Valja <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5234307452664250370" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6kxopfIKpYBMDcCA_0L1NQtT1Ht9CO_p_IsKVh0MPrEHVOy6K7v9-6h09lGvpAwes1adgnva213vYFxF2YH4gl-BextueMq__lP5HlOzEWpjC37B2K1sgfyKFcYG7n3Lf2HOeEv4nOmUZ/s400/Foto+Tapio+Valja+IMG_2905.jpg" border="0" />Photographer Tapio Valja<br /><div align="left"></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5234316420246912146" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirEiPbMDkuNnPP51ezMuBq_5_30_3m_khPaBYO7ms4cGN2ZhwcAfa7pBc2EAXJGC7jO7bTBuCF06YdZtIdm_FaXeoJewL_eSv9ALK9mvP9W4w6DcPljHXK1_Xba1bzLxxJdb-QIQXvL4Cc/s400/Kopia2+av+Foto+Thomas+LeprinceTLP.jpg" border="0" /> <div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjzPtkqvfPwf7fOl2dq26s0rz5ybj0Y2GXVvgPsnf3U3oaSxAwZGrp1yNeUzf0FPeb0RUAdzP1MgSEQr9PCQwaj4aRTBUtnnh4q4fB2u0NpXKQaHtDbNzKRIzAKOalj5jd-mIT__Fud_E1/s1600-h/Kopia+av+Foto+Thomas+LeprinceTLP.jpg.jpg"></a></div><div align="left"></div><div align="left"></div><div align="left"></div><div align="left"></div><div align="center">Photographer Thomas LePrince<br /><br /></div><div align="left"></div><div align="left">After Finland the torched head was repaired and the bike cleaned from the bottom to the top. It had aluminium sprayed over many components that has to be removed. Engine and transmission was totally disassembled for inspection and cleaning. The head seal was modified for more efficient transportation of heat. New Pushrod balls in the Uddeholm Vancron 40 was made and installed for testing. Greger Johansson who is taking one year off the racing, busy with building new engines, has been with us in the team this season. He is an expert in sheet metal works and did reshape the intake tubes for better more rigid mounting in the future.<br /><br />We had a wonderful weather in Mantorp, up to 30 degrees C. At Thursday before the race had Leif Andreasson organized a MSD and Racepak on track training. Over 100 people did participate. Joe Pando MSD and Tim Andersson Racepak did an excellent job at the presentation and could give all answers on the tricky questions that came up.<br /><br />As previous year did Super Twin Top Fuel and Top Fuel Bike run 1/8 mile on Mantorp because of the short stopping distance. New for this year was 1000 feet for Top Fuel Cars same length as NHRA start with in the Denver race this year.<br /><br />Friday morning early, time for qualification for the Super Twins. We got big expectations and with the shorter distance we can try to find a “window” for our tune up without destroying to much parts. But we got the same problem again, torching the head direct after the hit. The team took a quick decision. We have to fix it for Saturday´s qualification. There is something in the tune up, fuel mixture, ignition, comp ratio, boost that not is right. Mechanical there is nothing to do except for maybe some smaller design changes. Nothing breaks it just torches.<br /><br />Just before noon Charley and Jarmo borrowed a car and drove 2,5 hours home with heads and cylinders. Matte, Greger and Göran “Spex” Lönnmark did stay at the track cleaning up the bike and fix, inspect and replace parts.<br /><br />In the teams workshop a new rear cylinderhead was completed and made ready for use with seats and guides, machining for nozzles and head seal and porting. Three more head studs were added in the hot area on both heads. The front cylinder head also needed seal fresh up because of smaller burn marks. The cylinders got the extra holes for the new studs. After a contact with Chris Brown at ARP did we choose studs and torque values to optimize the mount of the heads. The pistons were modified for lowering the comp ratio and with support from Tom Prock at Venolia did the top of pistons machined in shape to be optimised for nitro.<br /><br />After 16 hours in the shop, eight a clock in the morning, did Charley and Jarmo drove back to Mantorp. At the track did a lot invited guests and sponsors have a lot of questions and also big expectations and hope too see the bike running down the track. Carina took care of all guest and the guys could assemble the bike. We missed the first qualification pass because the bike was not ready in time. After a warm up in the pits and small adjustments did it seems to run very well. Ready for last chance to qualify.<br />Time to make the run. Now the engine does not sound as good as it did in the pits, runs almost only on one cylinder. It cleans up during the burn-out and revs easily 6500 rpm at 20% throttle opening. Down to idle again, still running bad. What is the option, we have had been running fairly good with the old bike also starting with bad idle and this is the last chance to qualify. It is worth a try.<br /><br />As soon as Charley open the trottle did aluminium from the front cylinder head spray out in huge flame and the last bend of the intake manifold also came loose. Big disappointment in the team. After all hard work and still similar problem.<br /><br />We have been backing off on the tune-up as much as possible within the possibility of the design and when checking the logger everything looks great, except for the bad idle of course and that was even worse this last run at Mantorp.<br /><br />At the elimination day did the team got the time discussing what to do and what possible can be done to solve the problem. The flame temperature must be lowered.<br />By talking with other teams at the track and see and compare logged runs and discuss design solutions we did collect as much info as possible to go on with our own bike. The positive thing with the overload of the engine parts we have experienced has been a continues development of the design in some areas that we will have good use for in the future.<br /><br />Svein-Olav Rolfstad won the final at Mantorp and is now in the lead in the Championship.</div></div>Karlinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14249917952731367087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-429297526156341290.post-62494470600497592692008-08-14T11:13:00.000+02:002008-08-14T11:18:18.823+02:00July 4th to 6th 2008 Alastaro Finland Nitro Nationals<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAEzWzaGiHsus1wxYWf84cWTQGe0FHFevYctf8MztOwTOXI8q32SDQjFlPSEsSkR_P6w3OYuvczqB71efQMQ1J7G0p79CDXzurgM8IRgZMX68cibhl_z45M_kVfbVHS-XaPj3VAxuKlgki/s1600-h/DSC_9970.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5234300119675363922" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAEzWzaGiHsus1wxYWf84cWTQGe0FHFevYctf8MztOwTOXI8q32SDQjFlPSEsSkR_P6w3OYuvczqB71efQMQ1J7G0p79CDXzurgM8IRgZMX68cibhl_z45M_kVfbVHS-XaPj3VAxuKlgki/s400/DSC_9970.JPG" border="0" /></a> At the Main Event we found problems getting the tappet adjusting screws. The lock nuts can not take the load. So we made new more rigid screws and nuts in Uddeholm Orvar Supreme and hardened them up to the right level. We also sized up the Push Rods with thicker wall Chrome Moly tubes.<br /><br />First qualification. The bike really sounds strong and runs clean in the burnout. But at the sharp hit – for the first time ever with the bike - the intake tube came loose from the Y-intake between the cylinders.<br /><br />Second try. After a deep check on bearings, pistons, cylinders and more. Now with<br />A better clamp for the intake tube. The intake tube came loose again but not direct on<br />the hit. Rolling to the finish line.<br /><br />Third qualification. Flanges for the hose is made at the intake manifold and stronger clamps installed. A soft leave from the line 1,22 at the 60-foot, Charley leaves the trottle open to approx 300 feet as planned. The bike seems to be stable and easy to handle.<br /><br />Fourth qualification. A 660 to 1000 feet is planned. But when Charley open the trottle did a spectacular flame come out from the rear cylinder. It torched the head on the left side. We had the first alternate spot in the ladder but realized that we not were able to repair the damages and fix the problem in a proper way at the track.<br /><br />Lorenz Stauble was no 1 qualifier with a 6,76 and 342 km/h. The no 4 qualifier Svein-Olav Rolfstad won the race after have been running consistence all weekend with ET:s down to 6,6´s. Runner up was Hans-Olav Olstad also from Norway. Both guys are competing for in the same club.Karlinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14249917952731367087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-429297526156341290.post-75039879065432769072008-06-13T19:48:00.000+02:002008-06-13T20:01:50.058+02:0011 June 2008 ROTERA KULLAGER 10 YEARS AND NOMO KULLAGER 60 YEARS<div>Around 300 people did show up during the celebration of 10 and 60 years in business for the two companys supplying the Scandinavian industry with bearings. Around 250 bikes did compete in 6 classes for a price table worth almost a 500 000 sek. This show is also where a jury choose a winner that goes direct to the World Championship of Bike Building in Sturgis USA. The number two and three goes to the European Finals in Germany. The winner was Andy, Flying Choppers Finland.<br /><br />At one of the first times Charley did visit Custom Bike Show was 1974 riding his 1947 74” H-D Flathead Chopper with approx 5-10 hp over the stock 35 hp with it´s relived cylinders and tuned exhaust. At this years show did Charley and the team fire up the new dragbike that got some more power. Three warm-ups with Charley wacking the trottle 30-40% gave a enormous response. Most of the time did the team keep the bike undressed to give time for the visitors to see how the bike is built. Charley, Mats and Carina did answer questions all day long. </div>Karlinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14249917952731367087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-429297526156341290.post-89892500134588892402008-06-02T13:39:00.000+02:002008-06-02T17:35:06.679+02:00May 24 - 26th 2008 Main Event Santa Pod England<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHkJ0A3_9U3GG_QmwZFMfHPlc0fmLVN4AbYC0THU4-jclyJ7I93HgJYlckEpbHHu2EaaicgNlsd-aa25g1a0MDlpZdKqY3bvJFr6O-aJyQd6BGWG0Lkzw5wD3wKDSycvazbqFaGXT3chDA/s1600-h/new.karling02.jpg.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5207248573474606242" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHkJ0A3_9U3GG_QmwZFMfHPlc0fmLVN4AbYC0THU4-jclyJ7I93HgJYlckEpbHHu2EaaicgNlsd-aa25g1a0MDlpZdKqY3bvJFr6O-aJyQd6BGWG0Lkzw5wD3wKDSycvazbqFaGXT3chDA/s400/new.karling02.jpg.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><div>For the first time on the track with the new bike.<br /><br />It has been a long way, from idea, planning, designing, chasing parts and manufacturing to get there, the first time open the trottle at the track. The list of involved people is so long that it needs a separate story to describe how the work has been done and by whom.<br /><br />Two days before the event was spent in the pits by the team starting and testing systems and set-ups. The team was Jarmo Pulkkinen, Mats Tärnström, Carina and Charley. Hans Björkman, machinist and inventor who has spent days and nights in the Karling workshop together with Mats and Charley, stayed at home following the event. The Super Twin Rider Greger Johansson was also in team for the weekend and will also be so in Finland. Greger is making new engines and will be out later during the summer. Christian and Viktoria now with the little daughter Liv and changes in work situation do not have the time to spend the time that is needed.<br /><br />We did miss the first qualification session because we did not get the right temperature at the rear cylinder. On the second session we were out. The engine responded very well and the clutch hooked up as it should with only the primary arms in the burn-out. Maybe the rpm:s went up a little bit to high, the wheel speed went up to 380 km/h (230 mph). It´s tricky to know the trottle response before you tried it. With a fuel pressure higher than it ever had been before we got a smaller leak from one hose and have to shut the engine off. We fixed the leak easy but as the rules are we miss that run.<br /><br />Next day rain and wind and the day after that also rain. Not one single round in the European Championship, cars or bikes, could be completed because of the rain.<br /><br />So we did not qualify and even if we did not get a run it gave us a lot. Just a burn-out and the data we got from it shows that we are on the right track. We did work in the pit for three days starting tuning testing to get a basic setup and also get all functions to work properly.<br /><br />Since September last year when we started the bike for the first time we have been doing many changes. Here is a few examples. The main thing is a new designed mounting of the front primary drive pulley to the crankshaft. The McClure Overkill crank is modified to fit the new mounting and the main bearings in the crankcase is moved to give more room for the mounting.<br /><br />The engine also have got improved lubrication system with some new ports inside the Overkill crankcase. Both the feed and return is changed to get better circulation and less outside hoses. The Autoverdi oil-pump is doing its job and the oil pressure variation is only 5 psi from idle 3000 rpm up to 7000 rpm.<br /><br />The Clutch Cannon is redesigned for other seals to prevent the air from coming into the oil.<br /><br />The 44-amp Dual MSD Magneto Ignition have got improvements with waste spark boxes for the 14 plugs we not have on our two cylinder engine. It helps to keep the spark energy up.<br /><br />These new designed or modified components seems to work very well and we are sure there will be more when we get more runs on the bike. We now look forward to the next event in Finland in July. But before that, coming weekend Custom Bike Show in Norrtälje SWEDEN.<br /><br /></div>Karlinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14249917952731367087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-429297526156341290.post-86933698194441156642008-04-23T14:33:00.000+02:002008-04-23T14:38:16.332+02:002008-04-23 Balancing our new Crankshaft with IronCAD<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJG9MeLjO2HOXTa8d1H5ZFY_7nj-Exa_wuxnoI90O2An4T8xtYjbJl5nGr1MRGZT9aFJjvfmpIAqMQC1vwpO5Ok0M8Ij2DNcBI7xEybCCKrh7Dk2I-0yoomFov4UV8YID8tBOds89e9pW1/s1600-h/Crankshaft+prtscreen.PNG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5192418781863537794" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJG9MeLjO2HOXTa8d1H5ZFY_7nj-Exa_wuxnoI90O2An4T8xtYjbJl5nGr1MRGZT9aFJjvfmpIAqMQC1vwpO5Ok0M8Ij2DNcBI7xEybCCKrh7Dk2I-0yoomFov4UV8YID8tBOds89e9pW1/s400/Crankshaft+prtscreen.PNG" border="0" /></a><br /><div>The Karling Racing Team has been using IronCAD 3D for all designwork and documentation for the new dragbike.<br /><br />In the latest version of IronCAD is the COG (Center of gravity) tool available. With the part or parts in an assembly marked and clicking on the COG icon does it take a second or two for the program to position a small dot in the weight center of the object. If selected, the position of the weight center also is shown.<br /><br />The picture shows that the weight center is only 0,500 from the centerline of the crank when a calculated counterweight is added temporary to the crankpin.
